Let’s do another good deed for the Fourth of July!
I think these handbags are fun and cute and by buying one, you’re helping to save the environment and the world! Ecoist.com has a line of handbags and accessories made mostly out of repurposed and sustainable materials and they are produced in fair trade, sweatshop-free environments.
I really adore the candy wrapper handbags, but they also have handbags made out of pull tabs, movie billboards, jute (a vegetable fiber), and rice bags. There are totes, clutches, cosmetic bags, and some of these are one of a kind. The jewelry is pretty awesome too. They have jewelry made out of recycled vinyl records that I just can’t wait to buy.
And here’s another bonus: For every handbag you buy, the Ecoist plants a tree.
I think the cause and the goods are well worth the visit to the site, so before or after you have an amazing Fourth of July, check out www.ecoist.com!

A Neat Ruffle Hobo by Designer Christain Dior

When I saw this handbag as I was browsing through eLuxury, this purse caught my eye for some odd reason. I was actually in the midst of pushing the Next > button on my browser, but then this mustard looking ruffled bag caught my attention. So I decided to investigate further…
First off, it saddens me that the price tag on this precious baby is $1,750.00. It looks so different and unique which I guess seems to strongly affect its pricing to consumers like us. But anyways, let’s not waste too much time talking nonsense and rather continue on talking about this lovely bag.
Dior calls this designer handbag, “Gipsy Ruffled Medium Hobo;” which I feel is a name that is with perfect unison with this masterpiece. It’s said to be made out of gently washed calf skin which is just a nicer way of saying leather that came from a showered cow. Nevertheless, I bet it feels very elegant to the touch. On the other hand, how could one forget Dior’s signature dangling letter hardware on the handle? That little dangling thing makes women go fanatic for Dior designer purses; like myself. To be honest, this handbag is just as plain as any ordinary hobo with an exception to its stylish ruffles. Overall, I do recommend this bag to the hobo loving gals. If I see somebody with this bag, I will definitely stop them and give my compliments.
Happy 4th of July, readers…

Pass on plastic, use a greener alternative.
Straw bags are a hit this summer, and I can easily see why. Straw bags are eco-friendly, cheap to make, and not to mention the bag itself doesn’t weigh very much at all. But, think twice before you start rushing out to the nearest store to buy one. With a little time and effort, one can knit their own unique straw bag with just simple supplies from your local arts and craft store. There are many options and patterns are available on the internet, and a quick Google would yield some good information.
If you are not the do it yourself type, Straw Studio makes some very cute straw handbags, the one that particularly peaks my interest is the Polka Dot Cornhusk Satchel. I think they would go perfectly with my big floppy beach hat and my Kate Spade sunglasses.

“Oh Gracious One” – RIONI Savant
Before RIONI launched their new Savant collection, I already heard rumors of a new Rioni monogrammed collection designed especially for the summer. Might I just say I was extremely content with the brand new release (1st week of May 08) of this classy collection.
Though I love them all, I am going to choose and talk about only one of the styles from the RIONI Savant group. Since I hate making decisions, I had to open up www.rioni.com/savant_handbags1.htm, close my eyes and blindly point to my computer screen the style I was going to write about today. And upon reopening my eager eyes, my pointing finger landed on the “RIONI Everyday Weekender.” For some odd reason, even with my eyes closed, I still managed to choose the most expensive one. Anyways, let’s begin the handbag critique; shall we?
I honestly believe this is a perfect summer handbag. When I first laid eyes on this bag, I immediately fell in love with its simple elegance and beauty. So much that, if I were a thief and I saw a lady holding this bag, I would rob the lady of her bag.
“The Everyday Weekender” has it all; from looks, to space, to compartments (rear, front, and interior pockets), and to top it off, suede lining! This bag definitely screams “status.” The size is just perfect; not too bulky and not too tiny. Also, another plus thing about this tote is that it portrays both a casual and sophisticated look. I also feel that the silver patent leather is a perfect blend with the white Rioni monogrammed body. Usually I complain about everything, but this time I’m without complaints. Rioni has really done a great job with this collection.

A Playful Mother’s Day Gift
Mothers of the world rejoice this time of year when their children shower them with gifts and affection. But why is it that everyone usually gets their mother’s the same thing? This mother’s day, I thought I would get my mom something out of the ordinary. Instead of the usual flowers and chocolates or a day at the spa, I thought I would go for something different, so I got her the Betsey Carrier from Rioni’s New Rosette Collection. I know she doesn’t have anything like it so I am sure she would love it. The metallic leopard print is the coupled with gloss coated leather. It’s the perfect playful bag to add to her collection. In fact, I may order one for myself as well. Oh, and for those of you who like to wait until the last minute, you might still be able to call in your order and have them overnight it to you.

The Olympics in Beijing is coming! What should I bring?

First I would like to say that I am jealous of everyone that is going to the Olympics 2008 in Beijing! But for those who never been there before I have some advice to share. The last time I have been there was about three years ago and my first time was eight years ago. Granted that three years ago China maybe significantly different from what it is now. It’s almost like comparing dog years to human years. The first time I went to China it was bicycles on dirt roads, few places had running water, and they never even heard of a credit card, the last time I went it blew my mind countless Mercedes and BMWs on eight lane highways, five star hotels and restaurants everywhere you look, and yes American Express don’t leave home without it. Anyway back to the topic, here some things you can bring to be prepared:
1. A handbag with zipper closure, even though China is no longer the third world country we once thought it was, poverty and theft is still very much at large. Recommended: Rioni is rather meticulous at making all their handbags with zipper closures.
2. English to Chinese (Simplified) electronic translator, in case you need something you can type it in English and show them the Chinese if they do not understand. Recommended: ECTACO iTRAVL
3. An unlocked, quad band, GSM mobile phone, whew that was a mouthful. These are sometimes called a world phone; make sure you purchase a SIM card immediately when you get to China. Recommended: Motorola Razor this is fairly inexpensive phone with all the listed hardware.
4. Travel sized tissues and toilet paper. Most places in China are not accustomed to using as much tissues napkins as we are. Recommended: Kleenex Pocket Packs
5. Feminine Hygene products, this is important because during my stay I had a very hard time finding a store that carried tampons. Recommended: Tampax Pearl
6. Your passport and ID along with a color copy of your passport and ID; put it separate from you real passport. Recommended: Rioni’s Air Travel Organizer.
7. An extra duffel bag for souvenirs, memorabilia, and gifts. Recommended: A duffel bag, if you want to go fancy, Rioni’s Duffel Bag.

“Shoulders to Cry on…”

You’ve just finished your strenuous workout at the gym. You go back into the locker room, throw everything in your duffel and go home right? Right! Well, for most people anyway. However a friend of mine recently had shoulder surgery due to a sports injury. While rehabbing he was told not to do any heavy lifting or to put any excessive weight on his arms or shoulder. He went to the gym everyday to keep in shape and increase the range of motion of his shoulder. But the trouble he had wasn’t at the gym but coming to and from the gym. Sometimes his duffel would weigh up to 20 pounds. I’m not even sure how he managed to carry it the first few days. It must have caused him excruciating pain. But I had a solution for him; Rioni a makes perfect duffel on wheels. It’s lightweight and shaped like a rounded duffel bag, did I mention it has wheels and a telescopic handle like a piece of luggage. This piece was the perfect way to take the weight off his arms and shoulders and at the same time look good while doing it. As soon as I told him about it he ordered one and got it the next day in the mail!

WoMan’s Best Friend

Every time I walk past the pet store at the mall, my heart melts when I see a puppy behind the glass. And one time I was just a signature away from getting one of the cutest Pomeranians! The only thing that finally stopped me was my friend who kept talking sense into me while I was there. But I had it all planned out, I had the perfect handbag picked out to tote around my new pet. Rioni makes a great handbag big enough to carry your pet and your stuff all in one bag. Although not a good long term solution, it maybe a handy thing to have where pets are not allowed to wander around.
Many people are carrying their pets in their handbags now because it’s just more convenient than having to carry another pet carrier. But before you can even do that you would have to have a big enough bag (I guess that’s why the new trend is all about big bags). Rioni’s Shoulder Tote is big enough for all your stuff with enough extra room for your pet to pop his head out. Its great!

Large bags are expensive – Should I invest in one?
Interest rates are dropping, what should we do to get the most out of our dollar? You may want to consider one of the following handbags:

Large Hobo Carrier – There is no doubt that this handbag is simply beautiful! The goldenrod butterscotch color is stunning and trendy. The main zipper entrance is practical and convenient. Usually when you carry larger bags, you are more likely to fill your bags with more goodies. So wouldn’t it be terribly disappointing if you were to accidentally tip over your handbag and see all your VIP club cards, keys, snacks, and cosmetics fall towards the contaminated dirt ground? Enough said though, this tote also has other benefits as well. The three easily accessible compartments snaps open with magnetic clasps enabling you to organize your belongings effortlessly. Price: $315

Tote Organizer – To tell you the truth, this bag is not practical at all. This type of bag is made for those unique individuals that just want to stand out from the crowd. This bag should be held either on the forearm or carried by hand. You would think such a large bag would come with a shoulder strap, but unfortunately this rebellious bag does not succumb to traditional ways. This bag is hot and a definite head-turner; however, it reminds us girls that beauty comes at a price. Price: $216
So start consolidating all your belongings and try investing in one of the bags above.
