Handbags from Blue Tree NYC
Wow… So, there’s a New York based brand that is definitely unique. Blue Tree sells hand carved-Lucite handbags; some are hand painted and some come with embedded battery operated lights. They are works of art with cloth inserts inside so that they can actually be used to carry your things.
They’re different and they’re pretty… some of the designs are already sold out… but would you carry around one of these?

Tired of your Designer Purse?

Today, I was strolling down Venice beach when something caught my eye. I saw a lady jogging along the beach shore with a dog along her waist. At first I thought she was wearing a fanny pack with a stuffed animal in the pouch pocket. However, as I more closely observed this odd scene, I noticed that she was actually wearing the stuffed animal across her shoulder. Then, I looked even more closely and noticed that the stuffed animal was actually a real life puppy! The lady stopped for a rest on a public bench, so I being curious and nosey, walked up to her to ask about the puppy.
To make things a bit less awkward, I first initiated a casual conversation with the “puppy lady.” You know the “What great weather we have here today…” After only a few minutes I could not hold it in any longer, so I popped the ever so anticipated question: “How the heck is your puppy attached to you?”
The lady enthusiastically described to me what she was wearing on her shoulder. It turned out that the puppy was strapped onto a puppy harness which was then connected to a shoulder strap. She told me that she purchased this unit aka “Dog Purse” on the web. She also told me that they had all sorts of styles, colors, and sizes for every occasion.
For all you puppy owners, ever think about throwing your expensive designer purse out for a day? Try investing in one of these awesome “Dog Purses!”

I Can See What’s In Your Bag!

The latest bag trend seems to be quite transparent- literally that is. All the designers seem to be coming out with their transparent totes from Chanel to Dolce and Gabbana.
It seems to me that transparent totes have been out for a while. I think it’s just recently that the designers have decided to put their names on it to up the price of the bag. Would I spend $540 for a transparent tote that I can get for $20 or less just for the name? You bet not!
Transparent totes are great for the beach because in general you don’t carry too many personal items to the beach besides reading material, towel, and sun block. However, I would hesitate to carry a transparent handbag as my everyday bag because on an everyday basis, I tend to carry more personal items than I would to the beach.
However if you are interested in carrying these clear beauties, Lisa Perry has a multicolored one available at Bloomingdales for $395. Dolce and Gabbana has a couple ranging from$540-$1695 and Chanel has one for $895, just to name a few.
Transparent is just not for me, but for others out there just consider how comfortable do you feel if everyone can see what’s in your bag?

Birthday present?
My younger sister’s 17th birthday is fast approaching. I’m sure plenty of people can relate with this; it’s so hard for me to figure out what my sister likes. She’s just SO picky about things. It makes finding a present for her pretty difficult.
So I went ahead and asked my sister what she wanted for her birthday. I could tell how much she loves thinking about this question by the look on her face. First, she told me that I should just take her shopping. (Yeah right!) Then she told me that she really loved the Juicy Couture Velour Daydreamer Bag.
This handbag is actually pretty quirky and cute. I can see why she likes it. It’s different and it just stands out well. She said she really liked the size of the velour satchel, (14×11x7) and she liked the color of it and the strange little details that make the handbag fun.
It has a logo printed scarf with appliquéd leather flowers attacked to the bag. The handbag also comes with a removable heart shaped mirror.
I guess I’ll have to get it for her and I think I’ll have to borrow it every now and then. I’ll be expecting something nice in October, lil sis!

Prada’s Lace Leather Bowler

Prada really loves lace for their Fall 2008 line. They love it so much that they’ve covered their handbags in them. The question, of course, is… Do you like that much lace on your handbags?
Now, I personally love lace. It’s so pretty and feminine. I firmly believe that a little bit of lace can go a long way. But can it work when it’s all over a larger handbag?
To be honest, I didn’t think so. But that was until I saw this lovely Prada Lace bowler while browsing through FabSugar. It is just… wow. What a gorgeous handbag. It looks great all dressed up and, as the lovely Eva Mendes shows us here, it looks great with a casual outfit too. I wasn’t too impressed with the Fall 2008 lace handbags that Prada showed off on the runway a while back but this one is a stunner.
Maybe lace can work out for larger handbags after all…

Clutches = Love

I’m always on the lookout for a cute clutch. I usually carry a clutch in my book bag. It makes life so much easier for me. That way, if I want to go out after class, I can just pull out my clutch and I’m ready to go. I don’t have to worry about transferring bags or forgetting an essential item. It really works out well for me.
Well, for the umpteenth time, I’ve stumbled across the Michael Michael Kors studded leather clutch. Every time I see it, I think it is fantastic and perfect for me. I really have no idea why I haven’t already rushed out to get it.
I love the vanilla color and the gold accents. I think it makes the bag cute and simple enough to go well with most outfits but also useful for nights out. It has a chain link shoulder strap that can easily be tucked away and it looks cute with or without the strap. It is 10.5”x5”x1.75” so it’s the perfect size to fit into my book bag.
Yeah, this bag is officially going to my back to school things to buy list.

Chloe’s New ‘It’ Bag

What do you all think about the new Chloe Cyndi Leather Tote, their new ‘It’ bag? It’s a 15.5×13′’ tote made of a soft alligator stamped leather, accented with utilitarian hardware that’s meant to give the bag an exotic but industrial feel.
I actually really like this designer bag. It just looks so simple but very classy and luxurious, much more so the the Cyndi Patent tote. I love the gray color with the contrasting gold clasp. Plus, it’s a great size, not too big and not too small, and it would fit everything a person would need with room to spare. This tote just seems like a great everyday bag.
I think Chloe did a pretty good job with this one so it gets an A in my book.

An Odd Designer Handbag by Marc Jacobs

A lot of people are ridiculing Marc Jacob’s Rana Pouch. To be honest I actually like the styling of the bag. The Rana Pouch consists of soft plushy kangaroo leather embedded with a fairly large golden metallic frog. The word “rana” in Spanish literally means frog. But in order to adore this handbag, you must appreciate the simpler things in life.
What defines a simple handbag? Instead of answering that question, I’m going to tell you the components of an intricate handbag—this way you can distinguish between the two types. A complex handbag is bombarded with tons of glimmering hardware. Other complex bags consist of shiny materials (whether it’s constructed using vinyl or genuine leather). Basically speaking, many of these bags can be defined as having a “bling” factor to them. But to be honest, I’m getting tired of all the “bling;” I say pretty soon, this fashion statement will phase itself out of existence. Anyways, let’s talk more about the bag.
I think the bag is pretty cool looking. This designer purse by Marc Jacobs comes in a variety of colors (pink, black, lime green, mustard yellow). If you asked me to choose a color, I would pick the pink one. Don’t ask me why, I just like pink. Also, I like Marc’s idea of the shoulder loop functioning also as a closure for the bag. The overall design theory of this bag is unique and fun. In conclusion, I wouldn’t say this is one of the coolest bags ever made, but on Jen’s scale of coolness—I would give it 8 out of 10.

Celebrate July 4th with more than just fireworks.

This Independence Day, show your holiday spirit with a new Flag Bag. And unlike a lot of the bags I recommend you won’t break the bank doing it either. A handbag like this you can get at your local grocery store, your local pharmacy, or even your local convience store. And right around now they should be on sale at $1-$5 depending where you go. But this bag isn’t just a fashion statement. When you buy one of these to reuse instead of a using plastic bag, you are doing your part to reduce the waste that ends up in landfills. These bags are usually made with natural products like a cotton based fabric and are very durable. So when you get it stained or dirty from heavy use, you can throw it into the washing machine! How many of your other handbags can do that? Economy, Versatilty, and Fashionabilty (ok, I made that one up), but what else can you ask for?

A Neat Ruffle Hobo by Designer Christain Dior

When I saw this handbag as I was browsing through eLuxury, this purse caught my eye for some odd reason. I was actually in the midst of pushing the Next > button on my browser, but then this mustard looking ruffled bag caught my attention. So I decided to investigate further…
First off, it saddens me that the price tag on this precious baby is $1,750.00. It looks so different and unique which I guess seems to strongly affect its pricing to consumers like us. But anyways, let’s not waste too much time talking nonsense and rather continue on talking about this lovely bag.
Dior calls this designer handbag, “Gipsy Ruffled Medium Hobo;” which I feel is a name that is with perfect unison with this masterpiece. It’s said to be made out of gently washed calf skin which is just a nicer way of saying leather that came from a showered cow. Nevertheless, I bet it feels very elegant to the touch. On the other hand, how could one forget Dior’s signature dangling letter hardware on the handle? That little dangling thing makes women go fanatic for Dior designer purses; like myself. To be honest, this handbag is just as plain as any ordinary hobo with an exception to its stylish ruffles. Overall, I do recommend this bag to the hobo loving gals. If I see somebody with this bag, I will definitely stop them and give my compliments.
Happy 4th of July, readers…
