Economy and Fashion

How is the current slump in the economy affecting the Fashion industry? I’m sure you’re wondering how this affects next season’s styles? Like you and me, those in the fashion industry are watching what they’re purchasing as well as what they’re making for next season’s trends. Fashion is probably one of the hardest hit industries in the economy because of its desired my not necessary quality.

So how is the industry dealing? Designers such as Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger are promoting classic American sportswear in happy and upbeat colors. The thought in all designers is that it’s got to be something that consumers will want to add to their closets, yet not too elaborate. The philosophy is to use the same luxurious fabric with less embellishment. There are a few like Oscar de le Renta that wants to take the opposite approach of if you want to do luxurious, go all the way, embellishment and all.
