There's a New Print In Town: The Balenciaga Marble Print Collection
Back in 2013, Women's Wear Daily predicted that Roman-inspired marble print would rise from the ashes and enjoy a second coming in the fashion world. Soon thereafter, marble print began appearing in everything from furniture to accessories and clothing lines, and leading the charge was Spanish design house Balenciaga.
Although the marble print craze never caught on to the degree that WWD predicted, Balenciaga's streamlined pieces (which were head designer Aleander Wang's debut collection for the house) proved quite popular indeed.
We are pleased to announce that Balenciaga is having another kick at the marble print ball, this time with a streamlined edit of handbags. The marble print leather of the handbags is something that looks fresh this season, remarkably like the real deal, yet is visually light enough to see you through the warmer months of summer and into the fall. Our picks from the collection include the Le Dix Cabas Tote, the Cartable Flap Satchel, and the Box Miniaudiere.
All three of these incredibly sleek bags have minimal design elements on the exterior of the bag, allowing the rich textures and swirls of black and white to act as accessories unto themselves. Simple silvertone (and in some cases gold) hardware is sparsely used, and there is a simple golden plate with the house's insigna gracing each of the bags. We think that this is a perfect choice for someone who is looking for something a little bit different, and the monochromatic palette of the bag means that despite it's rather unique pattern, it is a bag that will likely go with just about anything. Who knows? Perhaps marble will be the new neutral.
