The Weird, Wild, and Wonderful: A Look at 2014's Craziest Handbags
2014 was an exceptional year for handbags. At Fashion week, everything from the tiniest of mini bags to oversized fashion editor-sized totes, just about every style under the sun was spotted on the arms of the fashion cognoscenti.
However, this year, the fashion world gave us something that we haven't seen in such abundance since the graphic, technicolor designs of the 1980s. Whimsical handbags in near-cartoonish designs were all over the street style set. Non-traditional materials were everywhere, and designers took their unique inspiration from just about anywhere. Here's a look at three of our favorite wild and wacky handbags from 2014.
The Rodnik Band Sequinned Ham Bag
Yes, ham. You heard us right. Fashion editor extraordinaire and sartorial envelope-pusher Anna Della Russo was spotted with this limited edition, pop art-inspired bag on her arm at the Fall collections this year, and soon thereafter this bag sold out online. The Lulu Guinness Red Perspex Lips Clutch
Lulu Guinness has been making her iconic lips handbags for quite some time, and they continue to be popular among fashionistas everywhere. Her latest permutation of her iconic design is a perspex clutch, which is a perfectly-timed addition to her collection in a season where kitschy clutch bags are all the rage.
The Moschino Sponge Bob Cross-Body Bag
This cartoonish yellow likeness of the popular television character was immensely popular (perhaps even surprisingly so) among the fashion elite this year. The simple all-leather design features one internal zip pocket, an adjustable leather strap, and a lot of potential to be a conversation-starter.
