Fall 2014 - Handbags on the Runway
As summer kicks into high gear, the world of fashion is looking ahead to what is next. There were a bevy of trends on the Fall 2014 runways, some which were continuing trends from past seasons and some which were pleasant surprises. One such surprise is the re-emerging trend of brightly colored handbags.
Although we have certainly seen brightly colored handbags making appearances on the runways for the past few seasons, it has always been in the context of the spring and summer collections. Historically, Fall has always ushered-in a season of more subdued shades of black, oxblood, brown, and navy, so this year's incorporating of vibrant shades is indeed a departure from the norm.
Use of color was seen at just about every major design house. Saint Laurent took a very practical rectangular flap shoulder bag and bumped it up a notch in a bright fuchsia sequinned effect with a red clasp. Both Akris and Diane Von Furstenburg were showing very on-trend fur handbags in shades of bright persimmon (Akris) and indigo (DVF), and Roberto Cavalli managed to make use of three re-emerging trends in creating a fringed, envelope-sized clutch in a bright crimson with maroon fringe.
Backpacks also continued to make a strong showing on the fall runways, in displays of colors not seen in previous seasons. Sass & Bide graphic tartan backpack was a real standout. Even main street retailer, Topshop, got in on the action with a very accessible maroon oversized, one-shoulder backpack that is sure to be an instant hit. Whatever you decide to add to your collection this season, you will have no shortage of choice when it comes to color.
