The Priciest Handbags of Spring/Summer 2014
While there are those who claim that the “it bag” trend is slowly ebbing away, design houses are still churning-out high-end luxury handbags with price tags that would give even the wealthiest of collectors a pause. Listed here (in descending order) are some of Spring/Summer 2014’s priciest handbag offerings, featuring some reliable names in storied luxury branding, and some unexpected ones as well.
Gucci - Soft Stirrup Crocodile Shoulder Bag - $32,500
The Gucci soft Stirrup bag was a hugely popular design for Spring/Summer 2014, and granted, while the other permutations of the bag were not anywhere near as pricey as the crocodile version of the bag, baseline prices still started at about the $2,000 to $3,000 mark for one of the suede versions. Granted, the Soft Stirrup Crocodile is a beautiful bag, if only for a select few, can be yours for about the same price as a new Mercedes C-Class
Valextra Alligator Isis Clutch - $11,700
Once again the use of alligator leather as the main fabrication for this bag is the primary culprit for the astronomical price tag, but when taken into consideration the fact that the Valextra clutch measures only 6.75 inches by 11 inches, it works out to approximately $157 per inch of alligator leather.
Fendi Peekaboo Mini fur Satchel - $7,750
Made from an explosion of dyed fox fur with shiny hardware, the Fendi fur Peekaboo is not the most subtle of statements. While not the most expensive handbag on the market for Spring/Summer, it is an unexpected fabrication nonetheless for the warmer months to come.
